The very first traffic laws began in 1903 when a savvy businessman named William Phelps Eno was taking a stroll through New York City. Eno realized that drivers in the city drove however they pleased. Eno decided he had enough and wrote a book depicting the very first traffic laws. Believe it or not, he was the brains behind stop signs, pedestrian crosswalks, roundabouts, and one-way streets. Till this day, Eno is considered the “Father of Traffic Safety”.
It’s today’s more recent laws that are becoming head scratchers. I’m not talking about the new texting while driving laws and hands free calling. I am talking about traffic laws that are downright strange. Check out some of these laws—they’re just plain silly!
- There’s no doubt about it. Californians have reached another dimension of multitasking. But restricting laptop use while driving? Really?
- You wouldn’t think Alabamans would get too far while driving blindfolded. Apparently someone thought they would try it out.
- We hope you have an extra bar of soap in your center console because it’s illegal to swear inside a vehicle in Maryland.
- Attention Missouri drivers! Control your passengers! Did you know it’s illegal to honk someone else’s car horn?
- If you’re already sick and tired of hearing the words “Don’t forget to take out the trash!” it’s not advised to move to South Carolina. You can get cited for leaving trash inside your vehicle.
